When the coil's movement is opposed by a coil spring </b><b>the amount of deflection of a needle attached to the coil is proportional to the </b><b>current passing through the coil.In more sensitive galvanometers the arrow(</b><b>needle head</b><b>) is replaced with a mirror reflecting</b><b>a beam of light onto a distant scale for  a smooth meter reading.</b></div>
